The cost of this trip is $1500 (airfare/R&R not included.)

You may make this payment online by Master Card, Visa, Discover or American Express or by check or money order. The most efficient method of payment is by credit card at GV’s secure Webs site reachable via the “Pay Global Village Fees or Donate in Support of Trip” link on the GV home page, (www.habitat.org/gv).

Each of your Global Village payments must include TWO THINGS.

First, you must include your eight-digit Habitat ID number.

Second, you must include the event code of our tour trip (GV 11032).

You can also make a payment by calling the customer service representative at (800) HABITAT, ext. 2549. Please have your credit card, eight-digit Habitat ID number and event code available when calling.

Many GV participants decide to fund raise for part or all of their trip cost, and I highly recommend trying this route.

If you are fund raising, I encourage you take a few minutes to create a fund-raising Web page at www.habitat.org/gv/create.html

Trust me, it’s very easy and requires no technical skills. All you need is your 8-digit Habitat ID number and event code (GV 11032). You will receive an email when someone makes a donation through your fund-raising Web page.

Molokai's Habitat for Humanity

Molokai Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate substandard housing, and in the process, improve communities. Molokai Habitat became an affiliate in 1998 and has built more than 18 homes to date. The affiliate works with many families who make less than $20,000 annually for a family of four. With the highest rates of unemployment and cost of living in the state of Hawaii, there is a great need for help in ending the homeless crisis in Molokai.

This trip will mark the third Global Village Habitat Group to visit the island.

About Molokai

Molokai is a rural tropical island, in the middle of the Hawaiian Island chain. Its population is approximately 7,500. The island is small, at only 10 miles wide and 38 miles long. Molokai’s main economic industries are agriculture and tourism. Ethnically diverse, its community is a combination of Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, Black, Caucasian, Samoan and Tahitian residents.

With the influx of affluent tourists, vacation homes and rentals, the cost of living and housing for residents of Molokai has increased dramatically. A consistent shortage of housing for local residents exists and an even more dramatic shortage of affordable housing for low-income Native Hawaiian families. The average single-family home price is $477,500. The median income for a family of four is $56,100. Many working-class families cannot afford to own their own homes.

The island also suffers a large homeless problem. Many families live on the beach, in their cars, in carports or with relatives. Difficulties in finding rental properties has become a stigma for the working-class families that maintain the island.

I will need to collect everyone's itineraries in advance to arrange airport transfers to the retreat center where we'll be staying. Airport Transfers will be provided to and from the airport and are included in the cost of the trip.
